Our Clinicians


Allison Cohen, MD joined Pediatrics Plus in 2004. She is board certified in pediatrics. She received her undergraduate degree from Duke University and then went north to Dartmouth Medical School. She returned to New York, her home city, for residency training at Mount Sinai Hospital, then stayed there in private practice until joining Pediatrics Plus. Her interests include skiing, travel, the applied arts, and spending time with her two daughters. Her husband is an orthopedic surgeon based in New Haven.

Emily Kovar

Emily Kovar, MD grew up in Milford, CT. She received her BA in Biology from Middlebury College with a minor in Spanish and her MD from Loyola University School of Medicine. She completed her residency at Rush University in Chicago and she is board certified in Pediatrics. Emily previously worked as a pediatric hospitalist in suburban Chicago and then at a community health center in Fairfield county. She is fluent in Spanish. Emily enjoys spending her spare time with her husband and daughter, traveling, knitting, and being outdoors. 


Zena Scates, MD received her BA in psychology from Washington University in Saint Louis and her MD from Saint Louis University. She completed her pediatric residency at Yale New Haven Hospital and joined Pediatrics Plus in 2009. She is especially interested in nutrition and obesity management. She enjoys spending her free time with her husband, daughter, and two dogs.


Stephanie Slattery, MD joined Pediatrics Plus in 2005 and is board certified in pediatrics. She received a BA in English from Williams College and a MD from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. She then moved to New Haven for residency training at Yale-New Haven Hospital. In her spare time, she is an avid reader; she also loves to knit, take pottery classes, and spend time with her husband and son.

Alicia Soto is a native of Fairfield, CT where she lives with her husband, two high school-aged children, two dogs, a cat and a lizard. She received a B.A. in International Relations from Tufts University, and her M.D. from Dartmouth Medical School. Dr. Soto completed her residency at the University of Minnesota and is Board Certified in Pediatrics. She brings with her 15 years of experience in caring for children. She loves working with families of all types, and has a special fondness for kids with unique medical and developmental needs. Her favorite things are being with her family, history, digging in the garden and a good farmer’s market.

Paula Masto Smith

Paula Masto Smith, CPNP received her BA at Boston University in 1997. She then graduated with her MSN from the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University.  She is board certified by the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners  (NAPNAP). Paula has been practicing for the last eight years in pediatric primary care. When she is not spending time with her work family, Paula enjoys traveling, volleyball, and relaxing with her husband, family, friends, and her basset hound, Neice.

Marci Panapada, FNP-C, CLC received her BSN from the University of Rhode Island College of Nursing in 2004. She then graduated with her MSN as a family nurse practitioner from Yale School of Nursing in 2006. She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Marci has been practicing for the past seven years at a community health center in Bridgeport. She has a special interest in lactation and received her Lactation Consultation Certification in 2008. Marci is very excited to run the Pediatrics Plus’ Mommy & Baby Support Group. She is also fluent in Medical Spanish. Marci enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and their dog, as well as walking, reading and music.


Stefania Pellegrino, CFNP, received her MSN as a family nurse practitioner from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT in 2011. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Stefania has worked specifically in pediatrics for the past 5 years. Prior to that, she was part of the Pediatrics Plus family as she worked her way through college. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, music and spending time with her husband and family.

Pediatrics Plus is thrilled to announce the addition of Katie Brown, APRN to our staff. Many of you have already met Katie, as she has performed her clinician rotation under the guidance of Marci Panapada, APRN. Katie received her BSN at Sacred Heart University in 2011 and her FNP with a Doctorate of Nursing from Quinnipiac University in 2017. Katie worked as a registered nurse prior to becoming a nurse practitioner and has over five years of clinical experience in postpartum, newborn, and NICU care. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her fiancé, family, and pets as well as traveling, running and being outdoors. Katie joins our practice on Monday, June 12, 2017 as a full-time clinician. Please join us in welcoming her.
